Neither number alone tells you much โ a tall 10-year-old could still end up average, and parent height only sets a target range, not a guarantee. Blending them tightens the guess.

The 65/35 split weights current growth trajectory over genetics, since a boy's actual measured progress is a stronger signal than a target derived from two other people's heights.

A few things trip up parents when they run this calculator for the first time. Height measured in the evening reads a bit shorter than in the morning โ spinal discs compress slightly over the day, so an evening measurement can knock a centimeter or so off the input and skew the result. Decimal ages matter too: 12 years 6 months is 12.5, not 12.6.
The mid-parental formula assumes both listed parents are biological. For adopted children or donor conception, that half of the blend won't mean much, and the age-based projection carries more weight on its own. And if a boy is going through unusually early or late puberty โ outside the range this reference curve assumes โ the age-ratio projection can be off by more than the usual margin. A bone-age X-ray from a pediatric endocrinologist gives a far more precise read in those cases than any formula-based tool, including this one.
